OFFICIAL SELECTION 2007 BOSTON FILM FESTIVAL |
Confronted by the sudden death of his beloved uncle, a Boston carpenter named Jack O’Toole dreams of producing a play about the man’s wake, hoping it will help him reconcile with his own father. The only stage he can afford is in a humble Irish pub, on a neighborhood street called Broadway. There, with a misfit group of would-be actors, Jack brings his vision to life, using this story of heart and humor to help his family and friends beyond their sense of loss.
A movie that gives you the feeling of being in your own home with your own family – and all the weight, warmth and wit that implies. On Broadway does just that, telling the story of a Boston everyman whose passion and sense of purpose inspire and unite his family and friends.Dave McLaughlin Dave McLaughlin co-wrote the movie Southie, which won the Jury Prize for Best American Independent Film at the 1998 Seattle Film Festival. His produced stage plays include God Willing and Back To Before, both of which he has directed. He created Plays Agus Pints, a series of staged readings of Irish-American playwrights. A graduate of Boston College (BA English), McLaughlin lives in Boston with his wife Beth and their son and a greyhound named Fenway.
