The Lie is a sturdy directorial debut from actor Joshua Leonard that could equally be titled The Argument . Based on a bitterly funny novella by the great American novelist TC Boyle, The Lie concerns the misadventures of two married, thirty-something Generation X-ers, Lonnie and Clover, on the cusp of a premature mid-life crisis. An unplanned pregnancy causes Lonnie to give up his music for a terrible job. Deciding he needs a few days off work, he calls in sick with the fictional excuse that his baby has just died. The consequences of this lie spiral quickly out of control.
