OFFICIAL SELECTION 2010 NEWPORT BEACH FILM FESTIVAL |
Torn between his angelic new girlfriend Ariel (Sarah Drew) and the relentless attempts by his persistent ex-girlfriend Kim (Haylie Duff) to get back together, a small town Michigan twenty-something (Sam Huntington) struggles to make sense of his life and find his way in the world. The dangerously sexy Kim may have cheated on him with a Frisbee-golf-playing loan shark (or mortgage broker, depending on whom you’re asking) but he can’t seem to permanently delete her from his life any more than he can delete her constant emails and voicemails. He tries to tell Kim she needs to move on, but she informs him she already did… and she didn’t like it.
Huntington’s hapless character, who dreams of being a screenwriter, reluctantly takes a job in a hardware store while waiting to hear back from the big time Hollywood agent to whom he sent his first script. The “angel” and “devil” on his shoulders are his loyal roommate Carl (Maulik Pancholy), who exhorts him to be a better man, and his ne’er-do-well freeloading buddy, Judd (Zachary Knighton), who encourages his baser instincts. His always-supportive mother (Yeardley Smith), a chemo nurse at the local hospital, insists he just needs to “trust his gut” but he can’t seem to tune into that little voice that has all the answers.
Abram Makowka Abram Makowka was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada in 1979. He is an MFA graduate of the USC School of Cinematic Arts. His first script Anatomy of a Stick Figure was featured on the 2006 Screenplay Black List. Makowka wrote Man Across the Street for Salma Hayek's Ventanarosa Films. He is currently in development with Cartoon Network and Shadow Machine (ROBOT CHICKEN) for his animated series GUSTO RULES! and is writing Bridgehead for Director Robert Logevall. TUG is his feature debut as both the writer and director.
